Always Stay Humble and Kind
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself,
it is thinking of yourself less."
C. S. Lewis
Staying humble and kind seems like a prerequisite for being in service to others. This means that our journey on our kindness path is directed by our heart - not from a desire of the ego to be recognized and appreciated, but from a true sense of kinship with one another - from love that naturally wells up in us.
We recently received an email from Orly Wahba of Life Vest Inside. Orly is dedicating her life to spreading messages that support us in living with kindness. In this message, she shared her perspective on humility.
Orly suggested that we think about a 1,000-piece puzzle, with pieces of different shapes and colors, but each the same size. That represents humanity. We are each unique. We all have a place in the big picture, and without each contribution, the picture would be incomplete. Seeing this enables us to embrace each person for who they are and not judge them for showing up in the way they do.
We may not understand how certain pieces fit in, but that is because the puzzle is still growing, and we can’t see the final picture. Orly suggests that “Our job is to respect each piece for what it adds to the final picture.”
That image makes it easier for us to see the value and the beauty of each person we meet, and to see ourselves as equally important in the larger picture of humanity. For me, that is humbling, but also empowering. It reminds me that my piece matters as much as anyone else’s, so my only job is to live each day as the best me I can be.
While thinking about humility, we came across this song and thought it spoke of our kindness journey. Thanks to Tim McGraw for the reminder that humility supports our acts of kindness.
Enjoy!

To be humble in a world so full of strife.
I find it hard to maintain. It is so easy to get caught up moving fast and forget about others. I have to constantly remind myself to slow down and pay attention to the world around me
Thank you for the reminder and helping me to focus
Thank you, Michael, for speaking what is true for most of us. We all need a reminder, so we can help each other to stay focused on what makes our lives rich.
